I. Course Description
With the rapid development of information technology and data acquisition technology, the application of data science is increasingly extensive in various fields. As a complex field, sports is also constantly exploring how to use data science and management to improve athletes performance, improve competition strategies, optimize training methods, and improve the efficiency of team management. Data science plays an indispensable role in modern sports research, which can not only reveal potential trends and patterns of players and teams, but also provide evidence-based decision support for decision makers.
This course provides a comprehensive perspective on the role that data science and management play in the sports industry (including traditional sports and e-sports). Course from the aspects of sports management, discusses how to use data to make wise decisions in sports management, the focus is on data and statistics, through these data and statistics, can to different sports and different era of dynamic comparative analysis, and found with a large number of sports performance and the evolution of the new stylized facts. The course is mainly divided into four sections. The first part addresses the dynamics of physical performance measurement and analysis and the importance of identifying influencing factors in PE. The second part introduces the basic concepts and tools for sports data analysis, with a particular focus on the application of these tools in different sports programs, including traditional sports and esports. The third part of the course explores in depth the sports management aspects, discussing how to use data to make informed decisions in sports management. Finally, the fourth part of the course explores the future of sports data science and management, discussing emerging trends and potential career paths in the field.
II. Professor Introduction
Lorena Martin – Professor of the University of Southern California
Professor Lorena Martin received a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Miami in 2005 and a master's degree in mental health counseling from Nova Southeastern University in 2009. In 2013, she received her PhD in Sports Physiology from the University of Miami, specializing in statistics. Professor Martin was efficiency director of the Seattle Mariners in the MLLeague and director of athletic performance analysis for the NBA Los Angeles Lakers, focusing on sports physiology, biostatistics and epidemiology. At the same time, Professor Martin is the author of the book "Sports Performance Measurement and Analysis: Evaluation of Performance, Forecof Future Results, Interpretation of Statistical Models and Evaluation", which plays an important role in the field of sports performance analysis.
