Course 1: Land Economy and Urban Planning: Exploration on Smart City Solution and Regional Resource Layout

I. Course Description

More than half of the worlds population lives in cities, and we want the cities to be clean, fair, green, sustainable, safe, healthy and livable. Will “smart cities” help us fulfill these wishes, or will destroy them? This course explores in depth the key challenges facing global cities, from sustainable development to the application of smart technologies, to explore how to achieve balanced urban development and economic resilience in a rapidly changing world. Given that more than half of the worlds population lives in cities, it is particularly important to master the effective planning and management of urban space, which is directly related to promoting the long-term healthy development of the economy and society. Through this course, students will learn the core theories and practical skills of urban planning and land economy, and have a deep understanding of the practical issues such as housing supply, environmental protection, and urban renewal. In addition, the course will also provide a sustainable and dynamic urban development strategy requires professional knowledge and practical ability, enable students to play a key role in the future urban planning and management, climate change, technology innovation brings new challenges, to create more livable and prosperous urban environment.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to fully understand the core theories and applications of urban planning and land economy, and master knowledge in key areas such as land use, housing development, regional governance and smart city technology. Students will be able to analyze and address global and local urban development challenges, especially in sustainable land policies, urban renewal, and environmental policies. Through project practice, students will develop innovative thinking to solve practical planning problems and lay a solid foundation for future career development in the field of urban planning and land economy.

II. Professor Introduction

University of London lands internationally-renowned academic as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) | University of LondonPhilip Allmendinger – Tenured Professor at Cambridge University

Professor Philip Michael Allmendinger is an internationally renowned expert in land economics and urban planning. He is currently a professor and vice president of land economics at the University of London. He has held several senior management positions at the University of Cambridge, including professor of Land Economics, the department chair and the Associate Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and vice President consultant, driving the schools academic excellence and administrative development. He is also the Chief Academic Officer and Vice President of the University of Bath, demonstrating his leadership and influence in international academia. Professor Allmendinger has published a number of important academic works and published a large number of research papers, making profound contributions to the field of spatial planning and land policy. He has been a fellow at Clare College, Cambridge, for many years, actively guiding students and working to enhance the regional affairs and influence of the University as a consultant to the Vice-Chancellor.
